FaceBook Lite

If you haven't already, come try out Facebook Lite, a sleeker and easier to use version of Facebook. Facebook Lite allows you to view and use Facebook more like an open message board.

What's Different About Facebook Lite?

Before you try out Facebook Lite Let me tell you about some of the features you'll find that are essentially different than your regular Facebook. Some of you may like these Facebook Lite features, some of you may not.

  • Writing a Post - In Facebook Lite you don't have the text box a the top of the page for you to start writing in. If you want to write a post you need to click on the button that says "Write" and then write your post.
  • Adding Links - You know how there's a button in the text box that lets you add a link in Facebook? That seems to be missing in Facebook Lite.
  • Posting Photos - Click on the "Post Photos" link at the top of the page and you can create a photo album and add your photos.
  • Adding Videos - Click on the "Post Video" to add a video to Facebook Lite.
  • Birthday Announcements - Every day your friend's birthdays of the day will be listed at the top of the page so you don't forget any of them.
  • Photo Tags - If you or one of your friends was tagged in a photo, you'll know right from your Facebook Lite feed.
  • Highlights, Requests & Suggestions - That big list of items on the right side of your Facebook page are all missing from the Facebook Lite page.
  • Notifications - There's a small link at the top of the page that lets you view all your notifications in one place using Facebook Lite.
  • Friend List - Over on the left, right under your picture is a button to see your friend list, easy access.
  • Your Photos and Videos - Under the friend list button is a button that allows you to see all your photo albums and videos that you've uploaded.
  • Change Your Info - Above the friend list button is the button to see and change your own personal info. That's the info that your friends read when they want to know who you are and what you like. Make sure you keep this info current and fun.

Facebook Profile and Strangers

Don't Let Strangers See Your Facebook Profile

Really having problems with strangers viewing your Facebook profile and contacting you all the time. This is how you can keep them all away. Don't let anyone who's not on your friend list see your profile. That stalker and those strangers won't be able to see you or send you messages anymore. From now on, only your friends can see you.
  1. On the top of your Facebook page, hover over "Settings".
  2. Click on the "Profile" link.
  3. The very first setting at the top of the page that says "Profile" should be set to "Only Friends". This will keep everyone except people on your friend list from seeing your profile.
  4. Change any other settings to "Only Friends" as you see fit.

Facebook Do's and Don'ts

http://www.teratips.com/facebook-do%e2%80%99s-don%e2%80%99ts/
1. Use Facebook to stay in touch with friends and make new ones.

2. Use Facebook to create your best image, since anyone with access to an “.edu” account can see your page. Google yourself every once in a while to check on your public image.
3. Use Facebook to get involved with the campus community and learn what’s happening.
4. Use Facebook to advertise your organization’s events.
5. Use Facebook’s privacy settings on your account to monitor who can look at your profile.
6. Use Facebook’s customer support page since it contains valuable information about privacy controls and other important safety information.
7. Use good judgment with your Facebook account and postings! What do you want future employers, administrators, faculty, and maybe even your parents to see?
8. Remember that UNH administrators are not monitoring Facebook, but may act on any violations of law or University policy if brought to their attention. Just because you don’t want them to look at your page doesn’t mean they can’t or won’t.

DON’T…

1. Post overly personal information like cell phone numbers, dorm address, class schedule, etc. unless you feel comfortable being contacted by strangers. Students have been stalked by uninvited viewers of their Facebook pages when they posted overly personal information.
2. Post pictures of your friends without their permission. It may be considered a legitimate invasion of their privacy, or may jeopardize their chances for a job, or their scholarships.
3. Think that just because you have to have an “.edu” account, that you are safe from any harm or consequences for the content of your page.
4. Forget that once you post something, it may live forever, even if you take it down.
5. Think that Facebook is the only website of concern. These same principles apply to MySpace.com, Friendster.com, etc.
6. Be afraid to get creative with your profile. Have fun and express yourself legally and responsibly. There are plenty of ways you can create a positive self image. You can impress your peers and community members and abide by all university polices, and laws!

Easy to follow lesson on how to use Facebook to chat

How to converse on Facebook

There are a few tips you need to know when you're conversing on the Internet. Whether you're friending on Facebook, IM'ing your friends, leaving messages in a forum, sending emails, or whatever, believe it or not, there are some things you need to know first.

By following these simple tips Facebook will become a fun and very useful place for you to visit daily. You'll not only get information on what your friends are up to, you may also get your daily dose of zen. With photos, daily prose, help on topics you're interested in and much more, Facebook can be a lot of different things.

  1. Don't use all capital letters - Writing in all capitals is a way of screaming on the Internet and will be taken that way. Please don't do it. It's really annoying to all involved. If you really want to shout it out, by all means, use those capital letters. Just remember to tone it down the rest of the time.
  2. Use your real name - Facebook is known for finding friends. You can't very well do that if you don't use your real name.
  3. Fill out your profile - If someone's going to find out anything about you, then you're going to need to fill out your Facebook profile. Let people know who you are. Don't give out anything private or anything that could be unsafe. Just give people information so they know who they're reading about.
  4. Connect with other people - This is what Facebook is all about, so get out there and find your friends. Find the people you know in real life and find old friends too. Connect with them on Facebook, always know what they're up to and keep them updated on your life.
  5. Be yourself - Be real, don't be fake. What's the point. Facebook is all about keeping your friends updated on the current events in your life and chatting about things you're doing. Don't make up stuff, there's really no reason for it. Just be yourself.
  6. Update, update, update - The more you add to your Facebook, the better your Facebook will be. Try to add a new post at least once a day. This will let people know what you're up to and also let them know that you're thinking about them.
  7. Leave comments - If you're reading through your friend's posts and you come across a post that makes you stop and think, leave a message. Let them know what you're thinking. This gives them a chance to respond back to you if they want. Or, at least they'll know you were paying attention.
  8. Join groups - Facebook groups are a great way to meet people with the same interests and issues you have in your life. Give a Facebook group a chance once you've joined. Post your own questions and comments to the group and get involved.
  9. Add photos - Photos make the Internet a more interesting place. Facebook makes it really easy to add photos, so add a few of your own. Let people leave comments on the photos. Photos can sometimes be a good conversation starter.
